When a new year begins, we’ve seen women come up with their New Year’s resolutions. More often these resolutions revolve around getting fit – have a diet plan, eat less, lose weight, begin a physical fitness regimen, etc. Though the intention of having resolutions is good, we all know that most of those women are unable to stick to their plans later in the year.

The first few weeks, many may be able to go with their exercise programs or diet plans. But a month or two after, most of them discover the difficulties of keeping up with what they set out to do for the year.

However, a vast majority of women runners who made their resolutions to get fit thru running coupled with the right eating habits are finding that sticking with their resolutions are not as difficult as many may be thinking. Compared with other exercise programs, running takes up less resources in terms of time and money. No need to pay monthly gym memberships; no time and location constraints when you need or where you need to exercise. As long as you have your running outfits with you, you can run anytime, any place. The investment to start a running program is also very minimal. In fact, the only major expense you need to start running is to buy a good pair of women’s running shoes.

The major considerations when purchasing women’s running shoes are correct shoe size and the arch of the runner’s feet. Stability running shoes for minimizing motion control and cushioning is good for runners with a normal arch or mid-arch. Enhanced motion control running shoes should be worn by low arch runners while well-cushioned running shoes are ideal for runners with high arch.

Majority of the running shoe brands are available for both men and women. The designs, colors, styles and structural differences for men and women are not that significant. But for most running shoes, men’s running shoes are bolder and have more contrasting colors in their designs. Women’s running shoes, on the other hand, have more subtle color and design schemes. Most women runners also go for additional cushioning because there are more women with a high arch than men.

Avoid frustrations when you have your New Year’s resolutions. Don’t set goals that are too high that you set yourself up for failure even before you begin. Taking small baby steps is the best way to go. Start a running regimen with just a pair of women’s running shoes. Do run slowly and increase your intensity gradually. As you become fitter and your endurance builds up, you will soon be discovering the joys of running. And when an activity becomes pleasurable, sticking with your resolutions becomes a lot easier.
